The second leg of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League Round of 16 will feature another key match, with Liverpool hosting Galatasaray at Anfield. Manager Sloot stated in a press conference that the pressure the team feels in their quest to reach the Champions League quarterfinals is actually a good thing.

In the first leg, Liverpool conceded a goal just 7 minutes into the game, and then had another goal disallowed, ultimately losing 0-1 to Galatasaray.

In the earlier Premier League match, Liverpool took the lead thanks to Szoboszlai's goal in the first half, but Richarlison broke through their defense in the second half, ultimately drawing 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool manager Sloot said, "The difficulty of the game is certainly that we've played Galatasaray twice before and lost both times. The good thing is that this time we're finally playing at home and will have the support of the fans. After we were tied 1-1 against Tottenham, I really liked the players' reaction. I think they immediately showed commitment, with seven or eight players tracking back at full speed on the counter-attack to make sure we didn't lose possession again. Then, another five or six players quickly pushed forward, creating 5-on-2 or 4-on-2 situations on the other end."

I believe the players will show resilience once again.

“This proves that the team is willing to fight, just as it has done throughout the season and during my tenure. I think we rarely lose to our opponents in terms of fighting spirit, there are some, but not many. Similarly, we rarely create fewer chances than our opponents, and even fewer than we lack fighting spirit, so our players will once again show the same resilience they showed against Tottenham Hotspur.”

Slaughter pointed out, "In the season we won the league title, I also made some mistakes, and looking back, there were certainly some imperfect decisions. But all my decisions were always based on winning the game. I think that in 80% to 90% of the games I've managed, whether at this club or at other clubs I've managed, the teams have been better than their opponents in terms of fighting spirit and creating chances."

"Whether playing at home or away will have an impact remains to be seen tomorrow. Looking at this season and the club's history, we have indeed performed better at home than away. But we fully deserve to be in the round of 16; it is a reward for all the hard work we have put in the Champions League. We have beaten Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Marseille here."

Sloth also said, "Of course we all feel the pressure, because there is pressure every day in this industry. Working at a club with a great history, we naturally feel it. We have a chance to reach the Champions League quarterfinals, which naturally brings pressure. But having this pressure is also a good thing, because we could have been eliminated much earlier, or only played in lower-level competitions, or even not qualified at all. So we will embrace this pressure and look forward to tomorrow's game against Galatasaray."

In addition, Liverpool will travel to Brighton in the next round of the Premier League to continue their pursuit of Champions League qualification for next season.

Sloth said, "After the Galatasaray match, we have another key game against Brighton, and we only have two days of rest. We are certainly aware of the importance of this game because we have a chance to advance to the Champions League quarterfinals."

“This will be very meaningful to me because it will be the first time I’ve done this. It’s also special for all of us because no matter how glorious this club has been in the past, reaching the Champions League quarterfinals is never a given. If we can beat Galatasaray, we will be very happy.”
