Los Angeles FC officially announced on Wednesday that South Korean star Son Heung-min has joined the club from Tottenham Hotspur. The two sides signed a two-year contract with options to extend until December 2028 and June 2029.

According to multiple reporters, including Paul Tenorio and Tom Bogut, Son Heung-min's transfer fee is an MLS record $26.5 million. He will join Los Angeles FC as a Target Allocation Fund player, and his salary is expected to exceed that of Inter Miami's Sergio Busquets.

There are also reports that Son Heung-min will wear the No. 7 jersey in Los Angeles.

Commenting on Son Heung-min's arrival, Los Angeles FC Co-Chairman and General Manager John Thorrington said: "Son Heung-min is both a world-class player and one of the most dynamic and accomplished players in the game today. Son Heung-min, 33, plays primarily as a left winger and has played for Hamburg and Leverkusen in his career. Since joining Tottenham for £22 million in August 2015, he has contributed 173 goals and 101 assists in 454 appearances across all competitions, winning the 2024/25 Europa League with the team.

Son Heung-min has also represented South Korea 134 times, including four Asian Cups (2011, 2015, 2019, and 2024) and three World Cups (2014, 2018, and 2022). During this period, he scored 51 goals, provided 23 assists, and led the team to the 2018 Asian Games gold medal.

After completing the transfer, Son Heung-min said: "I am extremely proud to join LAFC. LAFC is an ambitious club located in one of the most iconic sports cities in the world."
