Sunderland announced on its official website on Sunday that the club has signed France international defender Nordi Mukiele from Paris Saint-Germain.
According to the newly promoted Premier League club's official statement, Mukiele has signed on a long-term four-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2029.
After completing his joining procedures, Mukiele, who was interviewed by the Sunderland official website for the first time, said: "I know the story of Sunderland, so the decision didn't take long. It was a bit quick, but I love football, which means I love challenges. I will give everything I have for this club. I'll do that from day one."
"If you give me love, I will give it back tenfold. That's what I'm here to do, until the end."
"I'll commit myself wholeheartedly. I truly love football, and I'm willing to give everything to those who love me as much."
"And my ability on the pitch. I believe I now have a wealth of experience, and I want to give that back to my teammates."
About Nordi Mukiele
Mukkiele, 27, was born on November 1, 1997, in Montreuil, France. He is 1.87 meters tall and primarily plays as a right back, but can also play center back. He holds dual French and Congolese citizenship. His younger brothers, Norvin and Nordin, are also professional footballers. The former currently plays for Versailles as a center forward, while the latter plays for Rennes' youth academy as a right winger.
Mukkiele joined Paris Saint-Germain's youth academy at the age of seven. He joined Laval's youth academy in 2013 and completed his Laval first-team debut the following November at the age of 17.
During his two-and-a-half-year spell at Laval, Mukiele helped the club avoid relegation.
In January 2017, Mukiele joined Montpellier for €1.35 million.
During his one-and-a-half-year spell at Montpellier, Mukiele reached the semi-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue and the round of 16 of the Coupe de France with the club.
The following July, Mukiele joined RB Leipzig for €16 million.
During his four-year spell at Leipzig, Mukiele won the DFB-Pokal once and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and Europa League once each with the club.
In July 2022, Mukiele joined Paris Saint-Germain for €16 million.
During his two-year spell at Paris Saint-Germain, Mukiele won two Ligue 1 titles, two Trophée des Champions, and one Coupe de France with the club.
Last summer, Mukiele was loaned-out to Bayer Leverkusen.
Last season, Mukiele played 24 times for the Bundesliga powerhouse in all competitions, scored 2 goals and assisted 1 time, and helped the club reach the DFB-Pokal semi-finals and the Champions League round of 16s.
