Official: Mainz and South Korean international Lee Jae-sung have completed a contract extension.

Mainz 05 officially announced on Thursday that they have extended Lee Jae-sung's contract, which was originally scheduled to expire this summer, effective immediately. The club has not yet disclosed the length of the extension or other specific details.
The 33-year-old Lee Jae-sung primarily plays as an attacking midfielder, but can also play as a central midfielder, center forward, and left winger. His professional career began with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, a traditional powerhouse in the K League, and he later played for Holstein Kiel in the 2. Bundesliga for three years.
In August 2021, Lee Jae-sung joined Mainz 05 on a free transfer. To date, he has made 159 appearances for Mainz, scoring 28 goals and providing 24 assists.
At the national team level, Lee Jae-sung has made 102 appearances for South Korea to date, including two World Cups (2018, 2022) and two Asian Cups (2019, 2024). During this period, he has scored 15 goals and provided 17 assists.
Regarding the decision to renew Lee Jae-sung's contract, Mainz Sporting Director Nico Bungert explained: "Lee Jae-sung has spent five seasons with Mainz 05 and has always been an indispensable member of the team. Both on and off the field, he has always set an example for everyone with his professionalism and dedication. We are delighted to continue working with him and believe that he will continue to make contributions to us both on the competitive and personal level."
Lee Jae-sung stated, "I am delighted to have renewed my contract with Mainz. I am incredibly proud to continue wearing the Mainz jersey. I feel very comfortable in Mainz and have received excellent care both competitively and personally."
