On October 5th, the Timberwolves defeated the Nuggets 126-116 , securing their first preseason win of the new season. The Timberwolves showed strong form in their preseason opener, setting a positive tone for the new season. Despite the absences of several key players, including Anthony Edwards and Mike Conley , the team still managed to secure the victory thanks to excellent teamwork and the energy of their young players.

In the first quarter, the Timberwolves' excellent defense forced the Nuggets into numerous turnovers, resulting in a 40- point quarter . Despite Nikola Jokic 's early six points, Minnesota relied on their team offense to maintain the tempo. Young player Joan Bellinger 's alley-oop dunk quickly heated up the atmosphere.

Coach Chris Finch gave the young roster plenty of playing time. Rookie Rocco Zikalski played aggressive defense, Jalen Clark showed his rim protection, and Terrence Shannon was active with numerous fast breaks.
