Hyland , 25 , was a first-round draft pick by the Denver Nuggets in 2021 , when Tim Connelly, now the Timberwolves' president of basketball operations , was at the helm of the Nuggets. After showing explosive scoring off the Nuggets' bench, Hyland was traded to the Clippers in February 2023 .
To date, Hyland has appeared in 186 NBA regular season games , averaging 9.5 points and 2.6 assists per game, shooting 40% from the field , 36% from three-point range , and 85% from the free throw line . Per 36 minutes, he averages 20 points per game and has scored 20+ points 19 times in his career , with his highest being a 37- point performance with the Clippers in April 2024. While his efficiency remains inconsistent, his offensive skills are widely recognized.
Hyland is positioned as a backup, providing additional coverage for Anthony Edwards , DiVincenzo, Mike Conley , rookie Shannon, and Dillingham. He and Tristan Newton may remain outside the rotation in the short term, but their roles may adjust as the season progresses.
