In the just-concluded Premier League focus game, Tottenham lost 1-5 to Liverpool away. Coach Anchi Postecoglu gave a frank summary of the team's performance, rotation challenges and overall difficulties this season.
At the press conference after the game, Postecoglu first expressed his sincere respect for his opponent: "I want to pay tribute to Liverpool. They are well-deserved champions. They have performed very well and stably throughout the season. The same is true in today's game."
"I think we started well and made it difficult for them. Even before we conceded the goal, I felt that we were in control overall. But once Liverpool took the lead, combined with the atmosphere at Anfield, it was very difficult for us to turn the game around, and that was the case in the end."
Talking about the pressure brought by the recent Premier League and Europa League double-front battle, Postecoglu admitted that such a schedule has put the team and the players under great test. He explained: "Compared with Liverpool, their starting lineup is almost stable every week. But I have made a lot of rotations here, which is a necessary decision."
Postecoglu specifically mentioned that Tottenham has suffered from serious injuries this season, with many main players absent for a long time and their playing time needs to be strictly controlled after their return.
"Micky (van der Veen) and Romero could theoretically play today, but they have missed too many games and cannot be used rashly. Pedro and Bentancur also have a lot of game tasks, and this constant adjustment has indeed affected the team's overall performance." Postecoglou concluded.
Despite the crushing defeat, Postecoglu still emphasized the players' efforts and the pain they must go through at this stage, while also laying the groundwork for reorganization next season.
