In the 85th minute, Lewis Hall received a pass from Maguire and shot from the penalty area, but the ball was blocked by an opposing player. In stoppage time of the second half, Ben White kicked Viñas in the foot while clearing the ball in the penalty area. After VAR intervention, the referee awarded Uruguay a penalty. Valverde then converted the penalty, leveling the score at 1-1 for Uruguay.

Ultimately, England were held to a 1-1 draw by Uruguay at home.
