Ahead of Sunday's Premier League finale against Brentford, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira expressed his hope that the team could give fans a "farewell gift" with a victory at Molineux.
Wolves were once in the relegation quagmire this season, but after Pereira took over as coach from Gary O'Neill last December, the situation quickly turned around. The team is currently ranked 14th, and although it cannot go further, Pereira firmly believes that the entire club should be proud of this experience.
"I'm proud of everyone because it was a team effort," the Portuguese coach told the club's official website.
"I'm proud of the players, I'm proud of the coaching staff and all the staff at the club. We went through a lot of difficulties but in the end we persevered and managed to avoid relegation."
He especially expressed his gratitude to the Wolves fans: "I am extremely proud of our fans. In the past few months, they have shown extraordinary support, and it is their company that has helped us turn the situation around."
"Now we're going to play at home - in front of our fans, it's a good opportunity to say thank you. They've been fantastic and we hope to repay their loyalty and encouragement with a win."
