West Ham United have announced on their official website that the club have signed Fulham's Spain international winger Adama Traoré.
According to West Ham's official statement, Traoré has signed on a short-term contract which will only run until the of the season, with the possibility of an automatic one-year extension if the club avoids relegation. He will also wear the number 17 jersey which was previously worn by Brazil U21s international winger wonderkid Luis Guilherme.
This transfer also means Traoré will reunite with manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
The two previously worked together for three years at Wolverhampton Wanderers from 2018 to 2021.
After completing his transfer, Traore, in his first interview with West Ham United's official website, said: "I'm very happy to be here and excited to do my best to help the team and showcase my abilities."
"I've been following West Ham United for a long time. It's a great club with a huge fan base. I've been following them since I was a child; I watched a movie about West Ham back then. I know how passionate the fans are."
"My mindset has always been about striving for improvement. I'm always committed to improving myself and doing my best to help the team. I often say that if I'm the same as yesterday, I'm wasting my time."
"I like challenges. Of course, I think we have to take it one game at a time. We will give it our all and do our best. I believe it all comes down to belief. I believe we can achieve our goals."
About Adama Traoré
The 30-year-old Traoré was born on January 25, 1996, in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Catalonia, Spain. He is 1.78 meters tall and primarily plays as a right winger, but can also play as a left winger or center forward. He holds dual Spanish and Malian citizenship. His brother, Moha, is also a professional footballer, currently playing for Logroñés as a winger.
Traoré played for the youth academy of his hometown club, L'Hospitalet, at a young age. He joined Barcelona's renowned La Masia youth academy at the age of eight, before completing his Barcelona first-team debut by coming con as a substitute in November 2013.
During his time there, he won the Copa del Rey once.
In August 2015, Traoré joined Aston Villa for £10 million. However, he was frequently criticized for his poor performances and discipline.
On the following year's summer transfer window deadline day, Traoré moved to Middlesbrough.
In August 2018, Traoré moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers for £18 million.
During his five-year spell at Wolves, Traoré earned considerable praise for his impressive performances, even returning to Barcelona on-loan during the 2020/21 season.
In August 2023, Traoré joined Fulham on a free transfer.
During his two-and-a-half-year spell at the Cottagers, Traoré made 79 appearances for the Premier League club in all competitions, scoring 4 goals and providing 13 assists.
