Will Steele has spoken highly of the fantastic support from Southampton fans and discussed why he places so much importance on building a strong connection between the club and its fans.
Southampton's new manager Will Steele was at St Mary's to watch the game against Arsenal on Sunday and felt the passionate support of the home fans. Will Steele did not ignore the support Southampton received in this challenging game and said he hopes to win with the fans.
Will Steele said: “It’s been really inspiring, honestly. I’ve been watching a lot of games this season and the support from the fans has been so unwavering. Even when it’s been tough and the results haven’t been what we’d like, the support has always been unwavering. That positivity has made me feel welcomed and responded to by the people when I walk around the field.”
"I think that's one of the key factors. If the fans can understand and see what we are working towards and recognize the performance of the team on the field, they will give real support, which will make a huge difference. Looking back at the COVID-19 period, it was the most difficult time for coaches and players."
"Southampton have a very loyal group of fans who are fully committed at key moments and who understand the situation the team is in."
“The stronger their support, the better our chances of winning games because the atmosphere of the fans obviously affects the results and I think that’s a positive for everyone.”
"We want to be able to get everyone involved and try to be open, authentic and honest as human beings, with a hunger to win at the game of football. I feel Southampton is a great place to do that."
