Wolfsburg officially announced on Tuesday the signing of 20-year-old Japanese center forward Kento Shiogai from NEC Nijmegen. The two sides reached a four-and-a-half-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.
NEC NEC Nijmegen was the first European destination for Kenjiro Shinobu, who signed a contract until June 2028. To date, he has made 42 appearances for NEC Nijmegen, scoring 14 goals and providing 1 assist.
For Wolfsburg, the arrival of Kenjiro Saltbe will effectively fill the void left by the injury of Zenan Pejcinovic. To secure Saltbe's signing, Wolfsburg promptly activated the €9.5 million release clause in his contract.
Following the signing, Wolfsburg's sporting director, Piermin Schwegler, stated: "Kenji Saltbe is a young and incredibly talented player with tremendous potential. He stands out on the field with his speed, high-intensity running, and pressing, qualities that perfectly complement Wolfsburg's style. We are delighted to have convinced him to join Wolfsburg and will fully support him in adapting to his new environment and the Bundesliga as quickly as possible."
After transferring to Wolfsburg, Kento Shiobai confirmed that he will wear the number 7 jersey. He also expressed his joy at joining Wolfsburg in a statement: "I am incredibly excited to be here at Wolfsburg. Moving to the Bundesliga is a huge leap for me, and I am very much looking forward to the challenges. I will give my all for the team and continue to improve myself for the future of the team. I can't wait to start a new journey as a Wolfsburg player."
