Nottingham Forest is pleased to announce that Zach Abbott has renewed his contract with the club until the summer of 2029. The young defender performed well last season and the new contract is a recognition of his excellent performance.
He played for Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley in April and was named captain of the England U19 national team for the European U19 Championships this summer.
In August 2024, Zach Abbott made his first-team debut for Nottingham Forest, losing on penalties against eventual champions Newcastle United. Throughout the season, he was not only an important member of the head coach's team, but also played a key role in Warren Joyce's B team.
In the Premier League International Cup final, he scored the winning penalty against Lyon at the City Stadium, showing extraordinary calm and commitment.
Zach Abbott has been a part of Nottingham Forest's youth system since the age of 11 and has grown steadily through the ranks. This contract extension further solidifies his long-term relationship with the club.
Commenting on the contract extension, Zach Abbott said: "It has been a dream of mine since I was a kid to continue to grow on the pitch. I am delighted to continue this new chapter with this club. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported and helped me on this journey."
"Nottingham Forest is more than just a club to me. It has become part of my life. My parents took me to training every night since I was a child at school. I hope this relationship will continue for a long time and we will achieve more together."
Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson said: “We pride ourselves on the progression of our Academy players into the first team and Zach Abbott is a prime example of how this system can work. From the moment he joined Nuno Espirito Santo’s staff he has shown a fantastic professional attitude and continued improvement. He showed it all in the semi-final at Wembley.”
“Zach Abbott will continue to grow with the support and guidance of his teammates and the excellent team at the club. He has shown great ambition and strives to improve both his football skills and personal qualities. All of us at Nottingham Forest congratulate him on his successful contract extension and look forward to his continued positive progress in the coming years.”
