According to NBA insider Jack Fisher on Wednesday, the Golden State Warriors plan to sign head coach Steve Kerr to a multi-year contract extension.
Kerr's contract with the Warriors was originally set to expire this summer, and there were reports that the two sides might part ways at that time. However, Fisher offered another perspective in his personal column: "If the two sides ultimately reach an agreement, the Warriors are more inclined to offer Kerr a contract that lasts more than one season. It is believed that the Warriors' management hopes to avoid repeating the 'last dance' scenario as much as possible, and also hopes that Jimmy Butler and Moses Mudy can recover quickly from the injuries that recently ended their seasons and return to the court in the 2026/27 season."
The 60-year-old Steve Kerr has served as the Warriors' head coach since 2015, accumulating 604 regular season wins to date. He also delivered an outstanding record of 104 wins and 48 losses in the playoffs and led the team to four NBA championships (2015, 2017, 2018, 2022).
However, Kerr has not yet made a decision regarding his future. The Warriors are currently ranked tenth in the Western Conference with a record of 37 wins and 42 losses, and need to win two play-in games to secure a playoff spot. Considering the Warriors' repeated setbacks in the playoffs since winning the championship in 2022, if they are eliminated early again this season, Kerr may reconsider his future with the Warriors.
