Official: Spanish champion central defender Albiol joins Pisa on a free transfer with a one-year contract

Serie A newly promoted Pisa officially announced on Tuesday that 39-year-old Spanish central defender Raul Albiol has signed on a free transfer. The two parties signed a one-year contract that expires on June 30, 2025.
The official also confirmed that Albiol will wear the No. 39 jersey in Pisa.
Prior to joining Pisa, Albiol played for Villarreal for six seasons. According to Transfermarkt, he made 201 appearances for Villarreal across all seasons, contributing four goals and one assist, and also won the 2020/21 Europa League with the team.
In addition to Villarreal, Albiol also played for Valencia, Getafe, Real Madrid and Napoli. During this period, he played 59 Champions League games, 17 Europa League games, 219 La Liga games, and 180 Serie A games for each team, winning one La Liga title, one UEFA Cup, two Copa del Rey titles, one Spanish Super Cup, one Italian Cup and one Italian Super Cup.
Albiol also played an important role in the national team. He represented Spain 58 times, provided 2 assists, and won 1 World Cup (2010) and 2 European Championships (2008 and 2012) with the team.
