Southampton Football Club officially announced that it has introduced young striker Damien Towns from Cologne Football Club and the two sides have signed a four-year contract.
Damien Downes, a dual citizen who grew up in two countries, has been called up by former Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino for the first time and has completed the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States and Canada with the national team.
Damien Downes played four times in the Gold Cup and scored the winning penalty in the quarter-final against Costa Rica, helping the United States advance to the semi-finals. The United States then reached the final, but lost to Mexico and finished second.
In the club arena, Damien Downes performed well last season and made important contributions to Cologne's winning of the Bundesliga championship. He scored 11 goals and was successfully promoted from the club's second team to the first team.
Group technical director Johannes Spors said: "Damian Towns has always been a player we have focused on. He has excellent physical conditions and the ability to break down the opposing defense."
"Improving the team's forward line is one of our priorities this summer, and the addition of Damien Towns will undoubtedly enhance our squad depth. Although he is still young, he has accumulated a wealth of national team experience. We look forward to his continued growth in Southampton's system."
Damian Towns said: "As a player, everyone's dream is to win a championship. Last year, when I was 20 years old, I won my first championship trophy in my career. That feeling was very special. I hope to achieve this goal again in the new season."
"I have always believed that Southampton is a top-level club that deserves to compete in the Premier League. My job is to do my best to help the team achieve its goal of returning to the Premier League."
