Bayer Leverkusen announced on its official website on Wednesday that the club has officially signed England U21s international defender wonderkid Jarell Quansah from Liverpool.

According to Leverkusen's official statement, Quasah has signed on a long-term five-year deal with the club which runs 2030. At the same time, he will emulate former Reds legendary captain Sami Hyypiä, by wearing and playing in the No. 4 jersey for Leverkusen.

After completing his joining procedures, Quansah, who was interviewed by the Leverkusen official website for the first time, said: "When Liverpool played against Leverkusen in the Champions League last season, I was impressed by the team and the club. This is an excellent team. In the first hour at Anfield, their performance was almost unmatched."

"During the negotiation process, the club explained to me clearly their ambitious goals. Being able to participate in Bayer Leverkusen's current rebuild process is an important role and a challenge for me."

In his farewell letter to Liverpool fans, Quansah wrote: "From the moment I stepped into the door of Liverpool's youth academy at the age of 5, I dreamed of one day wearing a Liverpool jersey at Anfield. 17 years later, I can say that I have realized this dream."

In addition, according to news from GOAL's resident renowned Liverpool team correspondent Neil Jones, the Bundesliga powerhouse paid a transfer fee of  €40 million to the Reds to sign Quansah, of which  €35 million were the initial fee and €5 million were potential add-ons.

Liverpool will also have the clause to buy back Quansah for €60 million starting from 2027, as well as the first refusal right to veto other clubs' offers for him.

About Jarell Quansah

Quansah, 22, was born in Warrington, England on January 29, 2003. He is 1.90 meters tall and primarily plays as a center back. He can also play as a right back. He has Scottish ancestry as well Ghana and Barbados nationalities.

Quansah joined Liverpool's famous Kirkby youth academy at the age of 5 and was promoted to Liverpool's U21s team in the summer of 2021.

In January 2023, Quansah was loaned-out to Bristol Rovers, during which he helped the club successfully avoid relegation.

After returning to the club following his loan spell last summer, due to former Cameroon legendary defender Joel Matip's serious injury, which ruled him out for the rest of the season, Quansah unexpectedly completed his Liverpool first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in the Premier League match against Newcastle United in August 2023.

Since then, Quansah has repeatedly won praise for his mature and consistent performances.

During his 17-year spell with the Reds, Quansah has played 58 times for the Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 3 goals, providing 3 assists, and winning the Premier League and the Carabao Cup once each with the club.
