Manchester City defeated Aston Villa with a late 2-1 win on matchday 34 of the 2024/25 Premier League season at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

In the first half, Rashford's volley hit the post, while Silva volleyed the ball into the net, and then Rashford scored a penalty. In the second half, Nunes pushed the ball into the net from close range. In the end, Manchester City defeated Aston Villa with a 2-1 win. After this round of games, the Cityzens temporarily rose to the third place on the table with 61 points; the Villans are temporarily seventh with 57 points.

First Half

Just 18 seconds after the start of the the match, Youri Tielemans made a straight pass from the front, Marcus Rashford quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into the left side of the box before volleying with his left foot. Unfortunately, his shot hits the bottom right corner of the post and bounced off. Aston Villa missed an early golden opportunity to scare their opponent!

In the 7th minute, Omar Marmoush passes horizontally from the byline at the left side of the box. The ball was initially blocked and cleared off not far away by by Ezri Konsa. Bernardo Silva quickly followed up and upon picking up the loose ball, volleyed the ball with his right foot from the center of the box. The ball was palmed into the bottom right corner of the net of his own goal by Emiliano Martinez. Manchester City broke the deadlock first to take a 1-0 lead! This was the second consecutive game that the Argentina World Cup-winning international goalkeeper had made a terrible mistake!

6 minutes later, Jacob Ramsey was tripped by Ruben Dias while dribbling with the ball on the left side of the box. The VAR assistant referee immediately intervened and asked the referee to go to the sidelines to watch the VAR video replay. Under extensive VAR video replay checkings, the refereeing team unanimously ruled that Dias's malicious foul was conclusive, so Villa was awarded a penalty kick on the spot!

Marcus Rashford took the penalty kick and scored with a right-footed shot. Aston Villa equalized Manchester City 1-1! This is the fourth goal scored by the Manchester United player after joining Villa on-loan in January!

At the end of the first half, Manchester City and Aston Villa temporarily drew 1-1 as they entered the half-time break.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 60th minute, Kevin De Bruyne made an overhead straight pass from the left wing. After successfully beating the offside trap, James McAtee quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before volleying the ball with his left foot from outside the penalty area against the outrushing Martinez, but his shot went just slightly wide of the bottom right corner of the post .

In the fourth minute of injury time, Jeremy Doku passes horizontally from the left side of the box. Matheus Nunes quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, pushed the ball into the the bottom right corner of the empty net with his right foot at a very close distance in the box. Manchester City secured a late win by 2-1!
