Bologna pulled off a stunning 4-3 penalty shootout victory over Inter Milan in the 2025 Supercoppa Italiana semi-final at the King Saud University Stadium on Friday.

In the first half, Thuram scored with a half-volley, and Orsolini converted a penalty. In the second half, the decision to reward Bonny a penalty was revoked after he was found to have dived. During the penalty shootout, Bonny's weak penalty was easily saved, while Immobile converted his own. Ultimately, Bologna pulled off a 4-3 penalty shootout upset win over Inter Milan.

First Half

In the 2nd minute, Alessandro Bastoni crossed into the box from the left wing, Marcus Thuram quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, half-volleyed the ball into the lower center of the net with his left foot from the right side of the box, giving Inter Milan an early 0-1 lead! This is Thuram's 9th goal of the season and Bastoni's 29th assist for Inter Milan!

In the 31st minute, Emil Holm headed the ball forward from the attacking third. Santiago Castro quickly followed up, and before he could receive the pass in the box, the ball was touched by Yann Bisseck's arm. The VAR assistant referee immediately intervened, and after reviewing the VAR, Bisseck was found to have committed a handball. Therefore, the referee awarded Bologna a penalty!

Riccardo Orsolini converted the penalty with his left foot, leveling the score at 1-1 for Bologna against Inter Milan! This is the that I Veltri's captain's 82nd goal for Bologna in all competitions!

At halftime, Bologna and Inter Milan temporarily enter the break having tied at 1-1.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 56th minute. Nicolò Barella crossed into the box from the right wing. Federico Dimarco quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his left foot from the left side of the box, but his shot was saved by Federico Ravaglia.

Shortly after, Henrikh Mkhitaryan delivered a through ball from the left wing. After beating the offside trap, Ange-Yoan Bonny quickly followed up, and after receiving the ball, appeared to have been pushed down by Tobjørn Heggem at the left side of the box, and the referee immediately awarded Inter Milan a penalty. However, the VAR assistant referee intervened and, after reviewing the VAR, found that Bonny had dived, and the penalty awa decision was overturned.

In the 80th minute, Andy Diouf horizontally from the right wing. Lautaro Martínez quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before taking a right-footed shot from the right side of the box, but his shot was saved by Ravaglia.

Shortly after, Jhon Lucumí deflected the ball in his own penalty area and cleared it not far away. Dimarco quickly followed up and upon picking up the loose ball, took a left-footed long shot from outside the box, but his shot went just slightly wide of the right side of the post.

At the end of stoppage time, with the score still tied, the match went to penalties.

The penalty shootout began, with Inter Milan taking the first penalty, followed by Bologna.

Lautaro and Lewis Ferguson both converted their penalties.

Bastoni and Nicola Moro's shots were both saved by the respective goalkeepers.

Afterwards, Barella and Juan Miranda both missed their penalties due to excessive force on the ball.

For the fourth penalty, Bonny took a right-footed shot, but it was easily saved by Josep Martínez; Jonathan Rowe then converted with his right foot.

In a crucial penalty shootout, Stefan de Vrij's right-footed shot deflected off the underside of the crossbar and into the net, creating suspense.

However, Ciro Immobile then converted his own right-footed penalty, securing the victory for Bologna.

When the final whistle is blown, Bologna pulled off a stunning 4-3 upset win over Inter Milan in a penalty shootout, reaching the final of domestic cup competitions for the second consecutive year.
