In the second round of the Premier League, Rio Ngumoha, who was only 16 years and 361 days old, helped Liverpool beat Newcastle United 3-2.
In the 10th minute of stoppage time, Ngumoha scored the winning goal, which not only won Liverpool the crucial three points, but also made Ngumoha himself the youngest scorer in the club's history.
In the post-match interview, Ngumoha could not hide his excitement: "I am so excited! I am very happy to score a goal, let alone the winning goal. This is a wonderful moment, a special feeling, and I am really proud."
As a young striker who had just joined the first team, Ngumoha's calm finish showed no sign of immaturity. He revealed that this last-minute goal was no accident, but the result of daily training: "Both the youth training coach and the first-team coach always reminded me to rush to the back post."
"Today when I was at the back post and saw Salah and Soboslai pass the ball to me, I knew at that moment that the opportunity had come and I chose to shoot directly."
After scoring the goal, the fans in the stadium shouted his name. Ngumoha admitted: "It was a crazy feeling to hear the fans cheering for me. This is a moment I will never forget. In fact, I have done this kind of shot hundreds of times on the training ground. The real difference is that there are fans supporting you on the scene."
Regarding the future, Ngumoha expressed his firm determination: "Although I am only 16 years old, I don't want my age to be a barrier. I want to prove that I can not only play with people of my own age, but also compete with players who are much older than me. There are always people in the club helping me, and I am learning and improving every day."
