British football monthly magazine Four Four Two's former renowned English Liverpool team correspondent, Jack Lusby exclusively reported Thursday on This Is Anfield, a news website run by Liverpool's official UK fans' group, that the club's England U21s international forward wonderkid Jayden Danns will be sidelined for another extended period of time due to a recurrence of his knee injury.
According to Lusby, Danns, who had just returned from injury last Tuesday (September 23) in Liverpool's 2-1 Carabao Cup victory over Southampton, started for the U21s against Ipswich Town a few days later, even scoring a goal and assist in that match.
However, in the 30th minute of the match, after taking Liverpool's free kick, Danns felt severe recurring pain in his knee and had to be substituted.
Although he later participated in the first-team's final training session at the AXA Training Center before the club's recent Champions League match against Galatasaray and underwent light training, the severity of the injury led head coach Arne Slot to listen to the team doctors warning and not allow Danns to travel with the team to Turkey.
The team doctor has scheduled Danns to undergo a scan for his injury. While the results are still pending, team doctors has determined that the player's injury is extremely serious and will not heal in the short term. They have even prepared for the worst-case scenario that Danns might be facing another premature season-ending injury.
It is worth noting that Danns has been plagued by injuries since the summer of 2024.
Danns, who tragically suffered with Osgood-Schlatter disease (OSD), or osteochondritis of the tibial tubercle, at the age of 16, suffered a knee injury during the pre-season in last summer that forced him to miss a significant period of time.
Although he returned from injury in Liverpool's FA Cup match against Morecambe in January, even scoring the third goal of the match, unfotunately, a month later, he was sidelined for eight months due to a back injury.
This back injury also prevented Danns from participating in Sunderland's promotion back to the Premier League after joining them on the final day of the winter transfer window.
The news of Danns' serious injury is another blow to Liverpool, who are already facing the absences of Alisson Becker, Hugo Ekitike, and new signing Giovanni Leoni, and desperately need to defeat Chelsea to get back to winning ways.
