Emi Buendia declared himself in top form after helping Aston Villa to a 3-1 victory over Fulham at Villa Park. With the score tied at 1-1 at halftime, the Argentine came off the bench and scored in just six minutes, also assisting John McGinn's goal.
Emi Buendia, who spent last season on loan after returning from a long-term injury, was very proud to score his first Premier League goal since March 2023.
After the game, Emi Buendia talked about his mood. He said: "I feel really good now. At halftime, I got up from the bench and tried to get into the game as soon as possible to help the team. I am very grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the team."
"Obviously it's my first Premier League goal in a number of years because I've been struggling with injuries over the last few years. It was a really low period for me but I worked hard to get back on the pitch and help the team, so I'm really happy to score today."
The 28-year-old discussed his goal and assist in front of the Holt End, as well as the tactical instructions given to him by manager Unai Emery at half-time.
When asked about his task in getting into the area, Emi Buendia said: "My goal was just to feel the freedom between the lines and find space. I think on the first attack I found Kinney who was able to take advantage. He scored a great goal with a great shot from outside the box."
“Then we clearly gained momentum. We pressed hard to win the ball back and started the attack quickly. Luca Digne was playing out wide, Ollie Watkins was making a run in behind and I was able to get in and score, which was a great feeling.”
