Dortmund released a statement on Saturday, announcing that Youssef Moukoko has officially transferred to Copenhagen. His transfer fee is reportedly 5 million euros, plus a floating bonus of 2 million euros.
Various signs indicate that Mukoko has signed a contract with Copenhagen until June 30, 2030. He will wear the No. 9 jersey in the Danish Super League in the new season.
"Yussuf is a very special player for us," Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken said in a farewell statement. "He helped the team win several championships during his youth training period, and his professional attitude since childhood has also had a long-term impact on our youth training center."
"Although the loan did not live up to expectations, we sincerely wish him the best in his new chapter in Copenhagen. We also hope that he can continue to grow in a competitive environment where he can fully realize his huge potential."
Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl added: "Youssef once made it to the national team thanks to his outstanding performances for Dortmund's first team. Unfortunately, his career development has recently come to a standstill and all parties involved had hoped that the situation would be different."
"Over the past few days, we have had a number of constructive talks with Copenhagen. Yussuf has also actively participated in them, which ultimately led to this transfer. We hope that his career will take off again, and everyone in Dortmund will be sincerely happy about this."
The 20-year-old Moukoko grew up in Dortmund's youth training system and made his first Bundesliga debut for the first team at the age of 16 on November 21, 2020. He mainly plays as a center forward in Dortmund. So far, he has made 99 appearances, scored 18 goals and provided 8 assists, and won 1 German Cup with the team.
In August 2024, Mukoko was loaned to Nice by Dortmund for a season. However, he only played 22 times in Nice, 12 of which were as a substitute.
Before leaving, Mukoko said in a statement: "At this moment, my heart is full of mixed feelings. It is not easy to leave Dortmund, because this club, my teammates, coaches, people who have supported and trained me along the way, and great fans have always meant a lot to me."
"On the other hand, after a difficult year in France, I think it's time to start again in a new environment with full optimism and strong ambition. Copenhagen has provided me with all the opportunities. Thank you to the entire Dortmund family. I will always be a fan of Dortmund and hope to meet again in the Champions League in the future."
