Barcelona announced on its official website on Thursday that the club has signed Spanish goalkeeper Joan García from its local arch-rivals Espanyol.
According to Barcelona's official statement, García has signed on a long-term six-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2031, with a release clause of €1 billion.
It is worth mentioning that before this, Arsenal was once rumoured to be the club most interested in signing García.
Since the news that García directly transferred to the local arch-rivals caused a very fierce and bad reaction in the Catalonia Autonomous community, both Barcelona and Espanyol have temporarily blocked their social media platforms to prevent fans from rioting.
About Joan García
García, 24, was born on May 4, 2001 in Sallent, Catalonia, Spain. He is 1.91 meters tall and plays as a goalkeeper.
García played in the youth academies of the local non-league clubs Sallent, Damm and Manresa in the Catalonia Autonomous Region when he was young. In 2016, he joined the Espanyol youth academy. In September 2019, he began to represent its B team and completed his Espanyol first-team debut in Copa del Rey match in December 2021.
During his three-and-a-half-year spell at Espanyol, García played 67 times for the La Liga club in all competitions, conceded 72 goals and kept 21 clean sheets.
