Manchester United announced on their official website on Tuesday that they have extended the contract of England international center-back Harry Maguire.

According to Manchester United's official statement, Maguire has signed a new short-term one-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2027, with an option to extend for a further year.

After completing his contract extension procedures, Maguire, who was interviewed by the Manchester United official website again, said: "It's fantastic, obviously, this is my seventh year with the club."

"Playing for this club, even just one game, means a lot. So, to be here for seven years, and soon it will be my eighth, I'm really looking forward to it."

"Right now, our goal is to finish strong, to lay a solid foundation for next season, and then we want to make next season better, more positive, and more exciting. So, yes, I'm really looking forward to it."

"I think we're in a good position right now, and I believe the club is on the rise, and I'm eager to be a part of it."

"I hope that when I leave the club, it will still be in good shape, that's the most important thing. It has nothing to do with me personally, and nothing to do with any individual."

"It's about the whole team and the club, and I hope the club is in good form when I leave. I think if we continue to work hard, if we can make effective signings in the summer transfer window, next season will be a special season."

"The upcoming summer is very important, but as I said, we need to focus on this year, make sure we are ready for next year, and then make next year a special season."

About Harry Maguire

The 33-year-old Maguire was born on March 5, 1993, in Sheffield, England. He is 1.94 meters tall and plays as a center-back. He has Northern Irish and Irish ancestry. His younger brothers, Joe and Laurence, are also professional footballers, with the latter currently playing for Milton Keynes Dons.

Maguire joined Sheffield United's youth academy at a young age and completed his Sheffield United first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in April 2011.

During his four-year spell with the Blades, Maguire was selected twice for the EFL League One Team of the Year and attracted interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers. 

In July 2014, Maguire moved to Hull City for £2.5 million.

During his three-year spell with the Tigers, Maguire won the EFL Championship promotion oplay-offs once and also had a brief loan spell at Wigan Athletic.

In July 2017, Maguire joined Leicester City for £17 million.

During this time, his outstanding performances attracted the attention of Manchester United.

In July 2019, Maguire joined Manchester United for £80 million, breaking the transfer fee record and becoming the most expensive defender in history.

During his spell, he was appointed captain, but his declining performances led to harsh criticism and even the stripping of his captaincy. However, he persevered and gradually improved.

Since joining the Red Devils, Maguire has so far made 266 appearances for the Premier League giants in all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 9 assists, where he has won the FA Cup once, the Carabao Cup once, and reached the UEFA Europa League final twice.
