NBA Finals venue will have the gold trophy and the word "Finals" repainted

According to ESPN's Shams Charania on Wednesday, the NBA will resume spraying the Larry O'Brien Trophy logo and the word "Finals" at the Finals venue starting this season. This move also means that the NBA will return to a Finals tradition that has not been seen since 2009.

There are also reports that the above logo will be painted directly on the court floor, rather than presented through digital effects or stickers.

During the 2025 NBA Finals, many fans complained on social media about the lack of large Finals-related signs on the courts. In response, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver explained on ESPN: "I've seen some discussion about court signs. People don't seem to realize they disappeared 10 years ago because players complained that the signs made the floor slippery."

Shortly afterward, Silver told a select group of reporters at an NBA Cares benefit hosted by the Oklahoma County Boy Scouts. "Maybe we can find a way around this," Silver said. "To be honest, I hadn't really thought about it much until I saw the discussion on social media. I have a nostalgic attachment to certain things. Plus, in this media-driven world, whether you're watching a game live or watching highlights on social media, it's definitely more memorable to see those images that are distinguished by the trophy logo or some other special marking. So, it's something we'll consider."
