Valencia CF has announced that it has reached an agreement with midfielder Lucas Núñez to extend his contract. The Alicante-born midfielder currently plays for Valencia CF B (VCF Mestalla) and will continue to grow in the club's youth system after the contract extension.
Lucas Nunez was born in 2006 and is a versatile midfielder. He joined the Valencia youth training system in July 2017 when he was only 11 years old and was promoted to the club's reserve team. Last weekend, he participated in a friendly match on behalf of the first team and completed his informal debut.
Valencia CF has full confidence in the growth of Lucas Nunez and expects him to continue to demonstrate outstanding performance in the youth training system in the future and become one of the models of youth training in the club.
Lucas Núñez said: "I am deeply honored to continue staying at Valencia CF. This club has been an important part of my career. I have spent many years here and have long regarded it as my second home. I am very excited to have the opportunity to continue playing for the team. I will continue to work hard towards my goal of playing for the first team."
"I have grown a lot over the years, especially after living in the Sports City for eight years. With the company and help of my teammates and staff, I have become more mature."
"I started out as a No.10, a more offensive role. But as time went on, I adapted to the No.8 role. Last season at Mestalla, I was also deployed as a defensive midfielder. Depending on the coach's tactical needs, I can play as a No.6 or No.8. In addition, I learned a lot from Oscar Sanchez and Miguel Angel Angulo over the past season."
Lucas Núñez has been training with the first team during pre-season, under the guidance of head coach Carlos Corberán, and last Saturday he had his big moment, making his debut for the first team in a friendly against CD Castellón.
“It was a dream come true for me to play for Valencia a few days ago, even if it was just a friendly match. For all of us who come from the academy, getting into the first team is always our goal. It is a great honor to be able to train and live with professional players. Regardless of the result, I cherish this experience very much and strive to learn from it and continue to grow.”
“Our goal is to continue last year’s excellent performance and strive to achieve further results, strive to enter the promotion play-offs, and even launch an impact on La Liga. Personally, I hope to get as many playing opportunities as possible. If I have the opportunity to complete my first-team debut, it will be a dream come true.”
