De'Aaron Fox said on Sunday that he hopes to complete a contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs this summer.
According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, Fox is expected to reach a contract extension with the Spurs during the offseason. Bobby Marks then added that he is expected to receive a four-year contract extension worth $229 million this summer.
Fox also admitted in an interview on Sunday that he hopes to renew his contract with the Spurs this summer. When asked if he would sign in the offseason, he replied: "Yes, I hope so." However, Fox is currently in the fourth year of a five-year, $163 million contract. Even if the contract extension is not reached this summer, he will continue to play for the Spurs in the 2025/26 season.
Fox, 27, plays mainly as a point guard and was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the fifth pick in the first round in 2017. He played for the Kings for eight seasons, during which he played a total of 514 regular season games, averaging 21.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game, and helped the team end its 17-year playoff drought in the 2022/23 season.
In February this year, Fox joined the San Antonio Spurs through a three-way trade. As of March 12, when he was ruled out for the season due to a tendon injury in his left pinky finger, he had played 17 games for the Spurs, averaging 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game. The Spurs eventually finished 13th in the Western Conference with a record of 34 wins and 48 losses, and missed the playoffs.
