Newcastle United have officially announced the signing of attacking midfielder Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old English midfielder has signed a long-term contract with Newcastle United, becoming the club's fourth first-team signing of the summer. Ramsey, a product of Aston Villa's youth academy, has since made his senior debut in 2019 and has since established himself as a key player in the Premier League.
During his time at Aston Villa, Ramsey played 167 official matches for the team, scoring 17 goals. Last season, he made 10 appearances in the Champions League, accumulating valuable experience in Europe's top competitions.
Ramsey has also excelled at international level. He has been selected for England's youth teams at all levels, winning the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2023 with the England Under-21 team, where he played alongside Anthony Gordon, now at Newcastle United. This season, Ramsey will wear the number 41 jersey for Newcastle United.
After completing the signing, Ramsey expressed his excitement: "I'm very happy to be here. The last two or three days have been a bit crazy, but I'm really happy to join Newcastle United and can't wait to start this new chapter."
"It was an important transfer and when I learned the manager was interested I made the decision almost immediately. His track record of developing players is convincing."
"I always find it very difficult to play against Newcastle United. The team is full of energy, the tempo is high and the fans are incredibly passionate. I believe my style of play is well suited to this team and I am very excited to be in this team now."
With the joining of Ramsey, Newcastle United's midfield options have become richer, and it has laid a more solid foundation for multi-line operations in the new season.
