Rob Edwards applauded Matt Doherty's candid post-match comments following last week's defeat to Brentford, believing the Irish defender's points warrant serious reflection from the Wolves players. After suffering their 15th defeat in 17 Premier League games this season, Doherty urged his teammates in an interview to show the necessary fighting spirit and strive for the team badge.  

The manager stated that Matt Doherty spoke frankly in the locker room after the match. He believes the defender's leadership qualities are gradually emerging, but also admitted that he hopes to bring in more players with similar traits when the transfer window opens.  

Rob Edwards said, "He has the right to say that because these are the things everyone needs to hear, and I don't object. We have to maintain high standards, and someone needs to bring this up so that everyone understands what the requirements are. It's great that we've always insisted on doing this, but they have to do it too."

Some of his previous ideas were clearly still in his mind, so he continued with those ideas in the interview, but he expressed them very well overall.”  

“I think this is just a sign of his growing maturity, a natural result of his career development to this stage. When I worked with him before, he was still very young and still getting to know himself. Later, under the guidance of a very good coach like Nuno and his team, he may have come into contact with and understood higher-level requirements.”  

"It's clear that he's gone through many different phases since then, and has become a more experienced and mature player. He knows what's right to do and can communicate those requirements to his teammates, who are willing to listen to him."  

“Leadership is of paramount importance to me, and it’s something we must focus on in the upcoming transfer window. In building a team, attitude, ability, physical condition, and leadership qualities are all factors that need to be comprehensively evaluated, and that’s the key.”  

Judging from Matt Doherty's words and actions, he is an excellent leader. Currently, he is playing a leading role in the locker room, consistent in his words and deeds, and giving his all. I understand that this is not easy when there are limited personnel or a lack of clearly suitable candidates. But he proactively takes responsibility and strives to prove his worth.
