Elche released an official announcement on Thursday, confirming the official signing of 22-year-old Inter Miami midfielder Federico Redondo (hereinafter referred to as Redondo Jr.). The two parties signed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.
According to multiple media outlets including Ole, Miami International sold 50% of Redondo Jr.'s ownership for $2.5 million in this transfer and retained a 10% share of his future secondary transfer.
Born in Madrid, Spain in 2003, the son of Argentine legend Fernando Redondo, Redondo Jr. emerged from the Argentine Youth Academy and made his professional debut for the first team in the Argentine Primera División on July 11, 2022.
In February 2024, Redondo Jr. joined Inter Miami for $8 million. To date, he has made 60 appearances for Inter Miami, contributing 2 goals and 4 assists, and won the 2023/24 MLS regular season championship alongside stars such as Messi, Busquets, Alba, and Suarez.
Redondo's contract at Inter Miami was originally scheduled to expire in December 2027, but his playing time has gradually decreased with the arrival of Rodrigo De Paul, the continued improvement of Yannick Breit and the solid position of Busquets.
Redondo's move to Elche marks his first appearance in one of the top five leagues. He is expected to make his debut for Elche in the first La Liga match next Monday and will be committed to helping the team avoid relegation.
