February 19th - According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Domantas Sabonis underwent season - ending surgery on Wednesday due to a torn meniscus in his left knee. The 29-year-old Sabonis had previously attempted to play through the injury, even returning before the trade deadline, but missed the Kings' final four games before All-Star Weekend.
This season, Domantas Sabonis has only played 19 games, averaging 15.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game, with a field goal percentage of 54.3% . Despite his poor three-point shooting, he has maintained his strong rebounding ability and has recorded a double-double in most of the games he has played.
The Sacramento Kings have been plagued by injuries this season, currently holding a 12- win record and suffering a 14- game losing streak before the All-Star break . Another key player, Zach LaVine, also underwent season-ending surgery last week to treat a right tendon injury, causing him to miss the Kings' last three games.
Domantas Sabonis has two years remaining on his $94 million contract, while Zach LaVine may exercise his $48.8 million player option for next season. With the team plagued by injuries, the Sacramento Kings' management is expected to restart trade negotiations this summer in an effort to rebuild or revamp their roster.
