Real Betis announced on Tuesday that Alvaro Valles has joined the club on a free transfer. The two sides have signed a five-year contract until June 30, 2030.
Alvaro Valles is a 27-year-old Spanish goalkeeper with a height of 1.92 meters. He grew up in the Real Betis youth training system and joined Las Palmas as a free agent in July 2018.
So far, Valles has made 138 appearances for Las Palmas, including 37 La Liga games. According to statistics from the German transfer market, he has kept 47 clean sheets for Las Palmas.
Several Spanish media outlets pointed out that Betis' interest in Valles dates back more than a year. Valles himself was eager to return to Betis and even rejected Las Palmas' offer to renew his contract. In response, Las Palmas excluded Valles from the first-team lineup since last season, and the two sides eventually terminated the contract early in February this year. After the termination of the contract, Valles went to Seville for individual training and rejected the olive branches extended by several clubs.
Various signs indicate that after his return, Valles will compete with Adrian and Fran Vieters for the starting lineup. As for whether he can fill the vacancy left by Rui Silva after his transfer to Sporting CP, it is still unknown.
