Several German media outlets, including BILD, Kicker, Deutsche Welle and Sky Sports Germany, have all reported on Tuesday that Liverpool had begun in-depth negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen and Netherlands international right-wing back Jeremie Frimpong over the player's transfer.

According to reports, Frimpong has reached personal terms with Liverpool through his agent, and the Reds have agreed to trigger the player's €35 million release clause, but the two clubs are still in further negotiations on add-on, bonuses and installment payment methods.

In addition,The Athletic's resident renowned German transfer correspondent Raphael Honigstein, also added that despite various rumours, the fact is that Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have never made an offer to Leverkusen.

Since then, the Premier League champions have been the only club that has approached Die Werkself and Frimpong in recent times.

Honigstein also said that Liverpool did not only want to sign Frimpong just because they saw him as one of Trent Alexander-Arnold's successors, but because the former Celtic and Manchester City player can also play as a right winger and has the ability to replace Mohamed Salah who will be absent for the African Cup of Nations in January 2026.

About Jeremie Frimpong

The 24-year old Frimpong was born in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, on December 10, 2000. He is 1.71 meters tall and primarily plays as a right wingback. He can also play as a right midfielder or right winger. He has dual nationality of the Netherlands and Ghana.

Frimpong joined Manchester City's youth academy at the age of 9. During this spell, he played for the Cityzens' youth academy team in the UEFA Youth League and the Premier Youth League. He joined Celtic on the 2019 summer transfer window deadline day.

In September of the same year, Frimpong completed his Celtic first-team debut in a Scottish League Cup quarter-final match.

During his two-year spell with the Bhoys, Frimpong won the Scottish Premiership once, the Scottish Cup once and the Scottish League Cup once, and was elected Celtic's Young Player of Year in 2020.

At the end of January 2021, Frimpong joined Bayer Leverkusen for €11 million.

Since becoming a member of Die Werkself, Frimpong has played 190 times for Leverkusen in all competitions, scoring 30 goals and 44 assists, leading the club to win the Bundesliga once, the DFB-Pokal once and the DFL-Super Cup once, as well as reaching the UEFA Europa League final once.
