Spanish online media outlet Relevo's resident renowned Italian transfer journalist Matteo Moretto, exclusively reported through his official paid column on Saturday that Barcelona are interested in signing Ah-Ahly's Egypt U17s international striker wonderkid Hamza Abdelkarim.
Moretto stated in his column that Barcelona have been closely monitoring Abdelkarim since last year, and after continuous observation by scouts, the wonderkid has become one of the players sporting director Deco is keen to acquire.
Currently, Barcelona have begun negotiations with Al-Ahly regarding Abdelkarim's transfer. If the deal goes through, the player is expected to officially sign his contract and becoming a member of the Blaugrana during the summer transfer window of 2026.
Similar to Sweden U21s international striker wonderkid, Roony Bardghji, Abdelkarim is expected to represent Barcelona's U19A team and gaining sufficient experience in the Champions League first before being promoted to the first team.
Moretto added that Abdelkarim is already aware of Barcelona's interest in signing him. Having idolized Lionel Messi since childhood, the player has even expressed joining Blaugrana as his preference.
To achieve his goal, Abdelkarim's agent has temporarily put Feyenoord's approach on hold.
They have also not responded to inquiries from several major clubs in Germany, England, Portugal, and Italy.
If the transfer goes through, Abdelkarim will become the third Egyptian player to play in the La Liga, following Real Oviedo's and Celta Vigo's young talents Haissem Hassan and Ziad Fathy.
About Hamza Abdelkarim
Hamza Abdelkarim, who is only still 17 years old, was born on January 1, 2008, in Cairo, Egypt. He is 1.80 meters tall and plays as a center forward.
Abdelkarim joined Al-Ahli's youth academy at the age of 12 and completed his Al-Ahly first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in February of this year, breaking the record to become the youngest player to ever debut for the club and even in the Egyptian football.
In November, Abdekarim's outstanding performances while representing Egypt's U17s national team at the U17s World Cup in Qatar attracted the attention of major European clubs, and he was named one of The Guardian's 60 most promising young footballers of 2025.
Since his debut, Abdelkarim has made four appearances for Al-Ahli in all competitions, without scoring or assisting, but has won the Egyptian Premier League title once with the club.
