The Boston Celtics announced on Friday that Nikola Vucevic suffered a fractured right ring finger during the Mavericks' game that day. ESPN's Shams Charania reported that he will undergo reconstructive surgery tomorrow.
If Charanias is correct, Vucevic is expected to be out for at least a month. During this time, the Celtics will rely on Nemias Cueta and Luca Garza to fill the rotation duties.
The absence of Vucevic is undoubtedly a major test for the Celtics. Since joining the Celtics on February 3, he has played 11 regular season games, averaging 11.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 23.5 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 49.6% and a three-point percentage of 37.3%.
Besides the Celtics, Vucevic previously played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, and Chicago Bulls. As a 2.06-meter (6'3") and 120-kilogram (6.5kg) center, he played 1021 regular season games in his 15-season NBA career, averaging 17.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 31.4 minutes per game, with a 49.8% field goal percentage and a 35.1% three-point percentage.
Vucevic also played in 16 playoff games, averaging 18.4 points, 9.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 32.3 minutes per game.
