Cole Palmer says he and his Chelsea teammates have adapted to the hot and humid climate during the FIFA Club World Cup, which has been a key factor in the team's improved performance in the tournament.
Chelsea reached the semi-finals of the tournament with a 2-1 win over Brazilian club Palmeiras at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Cole Palmer broke the deadlock with Chelsea’s first goal of the tournament, receiving a precise pass from Trevoh Chalobah in the 16th minute, before he broke through two defenders and calmly fired home past Palmeiras goalkeeper Weverton.
Cole Palmer recalled the goal: "I found a gap and turned quickly. Facing the pressure from two defenders, I made a clever touch and sent the ball into the goal."
Palmeiras equalised in the second half with a brilliant goal from Esteban, who will join Chelsea in the 2025-26 season. Chelsea responded quickly when Marlo Gusto's cross was mistakenly saved by Palmeiras' Agustín Guiayi into his own goal, sealing the win and advancing to the semi-finals.
Fluminense, with Thiago Silva at the helm, will face Chelsea in the semi-finals. The final spot has not yet been determined, and Cole Palmer said that as the Club World Cup progresses, the Blues have gradually adapted to the pace of the game and improved.
Cole Palmer also said: "We are adapting to the environment here. The climate and court conditions are very important. As the game progresses, we continue to improve and perform better and better. I hope we can perform better than tonight in the next semi-final."
