The Korea Times reported on Sunday, citing the Seoul Central District Court, that a couple in the country were formally charged for allegedly extorting Tottenham Hotspur and South Korea national team captain Son Heung-min with faking pregnancy.
According to report, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station had immediately arrested a woman in her 20s named A and a man in his 40s named B, both of whom are currently in a relationship, after receiving a report from Son Heung-min's agent on May 16.
A was charged with extortion, while B was charged was attempted extortion. The police have also searched the couple's residences, and both suspects have been arrested pending trial.
According to the police, Son Heung-min dated A, who showed a fake ultrasound photo in June 2024, claiming that Son Heung-min had made her pregnant, and successfully extorted 300 million won from the player.
At that time, even though he knew it was fake, Son Heung-min agreed to let his agent pay A the extortion money in the hope of getting rid of the scandal because he was worried that it would cause trouble to himself, his family, teammates and the team if it was exposed.
As a condition, after receiving 300 million won from Son Heung-min, A had actually signed a confidentiality agreement with the player's agent and legal team.
Shortly after the incident, A broke up with the Tottenham Hotspur striker, met B and fell in love.
As a result, after A privately told B about her "great result" of "extorting" Son Heung-min, he not only did not set an example by reporingt his girlfriend, but in March 2025, he extorted an additional 70 million won from the player on the grounds that "if you don't pay us, we will expose the aforementioned incident."
In the end, after he could no longer bear the couple's long-term mental torture, the agent eventually informed Son Heung-min and the two decided to formally report the case to the police.
In order to avoid the risk of the couple conspiring to find other people to collude, forge more fake evidence, or even abscond for fear of crime, the presiding judge of the Seoul Central District Court, Judge Yoon Won-mook, quickly approved the police's application for the arrest of A and B after reviewing the police's application for an arrest warrant.
Currently, the police are still fully investigating whether A and B were instructed to commit crimes, and have prevented the media and netizens from making too many unconfirmed speculations about the private life and case of the Premier League giants' captain.
