Young winger Emilio Ballard-Matthews has signed his first professional contract with Wolves. The England U16 international, who turned 17 this week, joined from Watford in the summer of 2023 and has quickly broken into the first-team squad.
In August 2023, at the age of 15, Emilio Ballard-Matthews was selected for the first-team substitutes list for the first time in the Carabao Cup match between the Old Gold team and Blackpool. Since then, he has continued to improve in the youth academy and continue to accumulate game experience.
That same month, the winger played alongside Wes Okoduwa for England U16s against Italy, continuing his U16 international career at Wolves.
Emilio Ballard-Matthews said: "I am extremely happy to sign my first professional contract. I can't wait to step onto the court. I showed some of my potential last season, and this season I hope to maintain my performance and prove that I can contribute to the team."
“My start to life at the club was fantastic. I was called up to the England national team and then joined the bench for the first team. It was a fantastic time. I also had an excellent season with the U16 team.”
“However, last season with the U18s was quite difficult and I also suffered a few injuries. This season, I just hope to stay on the pitch, stay healthy, and give my all.”
"My goal is to score as many goals and provide as many assists as possible, while also striving for more playing time. I will work hard to be selected for the U21 national team and strive for a chance to be a substitute in the first team, participate in training, and show my ability."
“When I saw that U18 players were able to participate in the tour with the first team, I realized that my goal was not far away. I am well aware of my ability and potential, so I am very happy to see this opportunity. I am very much looking forward to the new season and hope to fully demonstrate my potential on the court.”
