Former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alexandre Letellier announces his retirement at the age of 34

Alexandre Letellier issued a statement on Tuesday, confirming his official retirement from professional football.

The 34-year-old Letellier, primarily a goalkeeper, graduated from the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy. He made his first-team debut for Angers on August 7, 2012, and subsequently played for Young Boys Bern, Troyes, Sarpsborg, and US Orleans.

In September 2020, Letellier returned to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer after a decade away. He primarily played as a backup goalkeeper for Paris Saint-Germain, making only two appearances, winning two Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups, and two French Super Cups with the team.

In July 2024, Letellier left Paris Saint-Germain after his contract expired. He has been unemployed since then until he decided to retire.

In his retirement statement, Letellier wrote: "The final whistle sounded... After a whole year of working alone and looking for new projects, and after careful consideration, I have finally decided to close the last page as a professional player."

"For 15 years, I have been fortunate to make football my career, receiving various honors and playing alongside many outstanding players."

"Retiring is a difficult decision for me because football has given me so much: passion, friendship, life lessons, and memories that will last a lifetime."

Letellier then thanked everyone involved individually: "To my wife, thank you for your love, thank you for being with me on this journey, thank you for your patience, and thank you for your unwavering support in good times and bad."

"To my family and friends, thank you for always being there for me. Even though we were sometimes far apart, you always stayed the same."

"To all the club presidents, administrators, coaches, goalkeeping coaches, staff, doctors, physiotherapists, administrators, staff and of course my teammates: Thank you for your trust, your commitment, your guidance and your companionship, which not only made my career possible but also shaped me into who I am today."

"To all the clubs, thank you for giving me the opportunity to wear your jersey and fight for your glory. Life has given me the opportunity to start my career in the youth academy and to finish it with pride at the club I have always loved: Paris Saint-Germain. Destiny has given me the opportunity to start my career in the youth academy and to finish it with pride at my eternal club: Paris Saint-Germain."

"To the fans of all the clubs, thank you for your support and the energy you gave me."

Letellier concluded his statement by saying: "This is not a farewell to football... it is just the end of a great chapter. The passion for football, in one form or another, will always be part of my life."

"Thank you all very much."
