Argentine attacking midfielder Oscar Trejo officially confirmed on Monday that he will leave Rayo Vallecano after his contract expires this summer.
The 37-year-old Trejo came through the Boca Juniors youth academy and made his professional debut for the Argentine Primera División on July 3, 2005. He subsequently played for several teams, including Real Mallorca, Elche, Sporting Gijón, and Toulouse, before joining Rayo Vallecano as a free agent in July 2017.
To date, Trejo has made 332 appearances for Rayo Vallecano, scoring 45 goals and providing 26 assists. As Rayo Vallecano's most capped foreign player, his greatest achievement is undoubtedly helping the team reach the Round of 16 in this season's European Championship.
In his farewell statement, Trejo said emotionally, "Today, with a calm yet excited heart, I write these heartfelt words. Saying goodbye to Rayo Vallecano is not just the end of a phase of my career, but a farewell to a vital part of my life."
“I came here with dreams, but I leave with a family, unforgettable memories, and a story I never imagined I would experience. At this club, I not only grew into an excellent footballer, but also into a better person, a better husband, and a better father. Rayo Vallecano has witnessed our laughter, tears, celebrations, and our repeated rises.”
“I have been fortunate to experience many unique moments: winning the Segunda División title, reaching the Copa del Rey semi-final that will forever be etched in our hearts, and three promotions to the Premier League – all of which demonstrate the club’s never-say-die spirit. To be the foreign player with the most appearances in the club’s history is an indescribable honor for me.”
"It's as if football wanted to give me another gift. At 37, I achieved a seemingly unattainable dream: to step onto the European stage. Not only that, but I didn't just represent any team, but the club I've loved all my life. This will be an unforgettable memory for me."
"None of this would be possible without my family. Thank you to my life partner. You have been by my side all the way, supporting me silently, and believing in me even when I doubted myself. Thank you to my four children, you are my greatest victory. You have grown with the club, understood my absence, shared my joy, and given me the strength to keep going every day. Everything I do on the pitch is also for you."
"Thank you to my teammates, coaches, technical staff, and everyone who contributes behind the scenes to the club. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to the Rayo Vallecano fans. Your support, your sense of identity, and your love for football make this place irreplaceable."
“I leave with a sense of peace and pride, because I have given my all. I am also certain that Rayo Vallecano will forever be an indelible part of my and my family’s lives.”
"This is not goodbye forever. I look forward to meeting you again. Rayo Vallecano will not be left behind... it will be forever etched in my soul."
As for Trejo's destination after leaving the team this summer, there is no definite answer yet. If he receives a suitable offer, he does not rule out the possibility of playing for another team for another season.
