Memphis Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr. will undergo sesamoid surgery due to persistent discomfort in his left big toe and is expected to miss at least three months, the team announced.
Sources revealed that the surgery has a high success rate and Pippen is expected to make a full recovery, but this also means he will miss important games in the early stages of the new season. Pippen gradually established himself as a rotation player for the Grizzlies last season and performed steadily.
Pippen's efforts not only continued the basketball legacy of his father, Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen, but also made him a prominent figure in the young Memphis Grizzlies lineup. Pippen signed a two-way contract with the Grizzlies on January 15, 2024.
Since then, Pippen has played in 100 games for the Grizzlies, averaging 10.5 points and 4.5 assists per game. On October 15, 2024, Pippen's contract was converted to a standard four-year contract.
After becoming a regular player, Pippen performed brilliantly and gradually became one of the team's key players. On November 2, 2024, against the Philadelphia 76ers, Pippen delivered a career-high 13 assists in the game, helping the team win 124-107.
On November 8th, in a win over the Washington Wizards, Pippen scored 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists, completing his first career triple-double and becoming the first father-son duo in NBA history to achieve a triple-double. On November 23rd, against the Chicago Bulls, Pippen set a new career high with 30 points and 10 assists.
