Bayern Munich officially welcomed new signing Jonathan Tah. After completing the transfer, he arrived at the Orlando Club World Cup training camp with the team and started his first training session on Friday.

The 28-year-old Tah admitted at a subsequent press conference that this transfer was a big leap in his career. Tah said: "I am very happy to come to Bayern Munich, which is full of family atmosphere but also full of hunger.

"After playing for Leverkusen for ten years, this is a brand new journey. Bayern Munich has higher requirements and a bigger environment. It is an opportunity for me to completely step out of my comfort zone."

Tah stressed that he not only came to challenge a higher level, but also hoped to grow into the leader of the team's defense: "Freund and Eberl explained to me the role I can play in the team, but all of this must be fought for by me personally. I am willing to take responsibility and am ready for the challenge."

When talking about coach Vincent Kompany, Tah was full of respect. Both of them were born in Hamburg, and this origin made Tah feel particularly close: "I have been following Kompany since I was a child. He was an excellent leader and central defender. From the first day, I could feel that he could help me grow."

Kompany also has high hopes for Tah: "Tah is an experienced defender with strong leadership. I look forward to him showing his influence on a higher platform and becoming the core of our defense."

Jonathan Tah will make his Bayern Munich debut this Sunday in their first Club World Cup match against Auckland City and his performance will be one of the highlights of the game.
