Kevin De Bruyne has decided to join Napoli, Italian media la Repubblica reported on Sunday.
De Bruyne, 33, played for Genk, Chelsea, Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg before moving to Manchester City for 76 million euros in July 2015. He has gradually grown into one of the world's top midfielders at Manchester City, making 422 appearances so far, contributing 109 goals and 177 assists, winning one Champions League, one Club World Cup, six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five English League Cups and three Community Shields.
In April this year, De Bruyne announced that he would leave Manchester City in the summer transfer window. Many clubs have since expressed strong interest in him, including Liverpool, Aston Villa, Juventus, Napoli, Chicago Fire, Miami International, New York FC and DC United. However, De Bruyne and his wife Michelle have already regarded Napoli as their first choice, and the active persuasion of his national team teammates Dries Mertens and Romelu Lukaku also played a key role in this.
La Repubblica further pointed out that De Bruyne and Napoli are evaluating the possibility of a direct three-year contract or a '2+1' model. His annual salary in Napoli will reach tens of millions of euros, which is comparable to the salary level of Victor Osimhen after the contract extension.
