Lecce announced on Tuesday that it has parted ways with head coach Marco Giampaolo with immediate effect.
The announcement read: "Lecce Club announced today that it has terminated its contract with coach Marco Giampaolo. The club would like to express its sincere gratitude for his hard work during his tenure and wish him all the best in his future career.
Marco Giampaolo, 57, was initially in charge of scouting at Pescara, and later served as assistant coach for Pescara, Giulianova, Treviso and Ascoli. He started coaching independently in 2006 and has served as head coach for Cagliari, Siena, Catania, Cesena, Brescia, Cremonese, Empoli, Sampdoria, AC Milan and Torino.
In November 2024, Giampaolo took over from Luca Gotti as the coach of Lecce. Under his guidance, Lecce achieved a total of 6 wins, 7 draws and 13 losses, and finally ranked 17th in Serie A with 34 points.
Although Giampaolo led the team to avoid relegation, his coaching performance failed to satisfy Lecce's top management. Lecce is currently looking for a new head coach and is expected to complete the selection within this week. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, former Cagliari coach Davide Nicola is Lecce's favorite candidate for the new head coach. If no agreement is reached, Lecce will turn to Venezia coach Eusebio Di Francesco.
