Al-Ahli announced on its official website on Tuesday that the club has extended the contract of its captain, former Chelsea Senegal international goalkeeper Édouard Mendy.

According to Al-Ahli's official statement, Mendy has signed on a new three-and-a-half-year contract with the club which will run until the summer of 2028.

About Édouard Mendy

The 33-year-old Mendy was born on March 1, 1992, in Montvilliers, France. He is 1.94 meters tall and plays as a goalkeeper. He holds French, Senegalese, and Guinea-Bissau citizenship. His cousin is France international left-back Ferland Mendy who is currently playing for Real Madrid.

Mendy joined the Le Havre youth academy at the age of 13 but was released due to his slender build, forcing him to begin his professional career with non-league club Cherbourg.

After his contract expired, Mendy, who had been unemployed for a year without any offers, was disheartened and considered changing careers. Fortunately, through a former teammate's recommendation, he got the opportunity to join Marseille's reserve team in July 2015.

The following summer, after his contract expired, Mendy joined Reims as a free agent, immediately helping the club win Ligue 2 and then helping them avoid relegation the following year.

Courtesy of his outstanding performances, Mendy moved to Rennes in August 2019 for €4 million, during which time his exceptional save percentage garnered media attention.

In September 2020, Mendy joined Chelsea for £22 million.

During his three years with the Blues, Mendy's excellent performances helped the Premier League giants win one Champions League title, one UEFA Super Cup, and one FIFA Club World Cup. He also gained widespread fame by helping Senegal win the Africa Cup of Nations during the international break.

In July 2023, Mendy joined Al-Ahli for £16 million.

Since joining Al-Ahli, Mendy has made 92 appearances for the Saudi Pro League giants in all competitions so far, conceding 94 goals and keeping 39 clean sheets. During which he has won the Saudi Super Cup once and the AFC Champions League Elite once.
