Kylian Mbappe was sent off with a straight red card for a heavy foul on Alaves' Antonio Blanco and apologised to his Real Madrid teammates and Blanco himself after the game.
In the La Liga match between Real Madrid and Alaves on Sunday, Mbappe was sent off directly for a dangerous action after only 38 minutes of playing time. He raised his foot high in a header and stepped on Blanco's leg, causing the opponent to fall to the ground in pain. This move also forced Real Madrid to play with ten men for the remaining nearly 60 minutes.
According to AS, Mbappe apologized to his teammates in the locker room after the game, regretted putting the team in a passive position, did not make any excuses for his reckless behavior, was sincere, and was "very upset" about his performance. Fortunately, his absence did not change the direction of the game. Real Madrid relied on Camavinga's goal in the 34th minute to tenaciously hold on to the victory and eventually took away three points with a score of 1-0.
After the game, Blanco also revealed to the media that Mbappe personally apologized to him: "This was a foul with a large range of motion. I talked to Kylian and he apologized to me. There is no problem. This kind of thing is sometimes unavoidable on the football field."
Mbappe is expected to face a three-match ban but will still be eligible to play in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26.
