On September 6th , ESPN's Shams Charania reported that Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has decided to accept a one-year, $6 million offer. This contract grants him a full no-trade option and makes him an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026. The Nets confirmed the extension but did not disclose contract details.

Thomas's agency held multiple rounds of negotiations with the Nets, including two offers of $30 million over two years and $9.5 million a year with incentives up to $11 million, but both were rejected. Thomas ultimately opted to bet on the future market. Notably, he is the fifth former first-round pick to accept a qualifying offer since 2017.

The 23-year-old Thomas is one of the last few restricted free agents this summer and was one of the first to make his decision. Over the past two seasons, he averaged 22.9 points and 31.4 minutes per game, significantly higher than his rookie season. Last season, he contributed 24 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.3 rebounds in 25 games, but missed significant time due to a hamstring injury. According to statistics, he encountered double-teams on 18% of his 1,000 possessions, a league average only surpassed by Zion Williamson, Alexander, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Thomas has scored 40 or more points nine times in his career, fourth in Nets history behind only Carter, Irving, and Durant. With his signing of a short-term contract, the future of the Nets and Thomas remains uncertain, and he will have the opportunity to maximize his value in 2026.
