Juventus officially announced on Wednesday that Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz had terminated his loan agreement with Nottingham Forest ahead of schedule. He subsequently rejoined his former club Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.
Juventus' official documents show that Luiz's loan move to Aston Villa cost €2 million. The agreement includes a €25 million buy-out clause, plus up to €3.5 million in performance-related bonuses.
The 27-year-old Luiz came through the Vasco da Gama youth academy and joined Aston Villa from Manchester City in 2019 for €16.8 million. He played for Villa for five seasons, making 204 appearances, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists.
In July 2024, Luiz transferred to Juventus for €51.5 million. However, his time at Juventus was not smooth, as he was relegated to the bench in 21 of his 27 appearances.
In the first half of the season, Luiz attempted to regain his form at Nottingham Forest. So far, he has only made 14 appearances for Nottingham Forest, providing one assist.
After signing the contract, Luis expressed his joy at returning to Aston Villa: "It means a lot to me to be back at Aston Villa."
“I spent the best five years of my career at this club. Returning means a lot to me and my family, and everyone is very happy.”
He added, "Although several clubs tried to sign me, when Aston Villa made an offer to me, I immediately said that I didn't need to consider any other options."
“I just wanted to come back because I had five wonderful years here. The year and a half after leaving Aston Villa was extremely difficult for me.”
“I’m eager to get back to my peak form. Playing alongside Unai Emery and my teammates at Aston Villa would be the best option for me.”
