Real Madrid released a statement on Friday announcing the transfer of 17-year-old River Plate attacker Franco Mastanduno. He will officially join after the Club World Cup and the contract is valid until June 30, 2031.
According to River Plate, the total amount of this transaction is 63.2 million euros (about 72.6 million U.S. dollars), setting a record for the highest transfer fee in Argentine football history. River Plate will receive a net profit of 45 million euros (about 51.7 million U.S. dollars), and the rest will be used to pay taxes and other related expenses.
Mastanduno mainly plays as a right winger and attacking midfielder, and is regarded as an outstanding representative of the new generation of Argentine attackers. He came from the River Plate youth training and made his debut for the first team in the Argentina Cup on February 8, 2024.
So far, Mastanduno has made 61 appearances for River Plate, scoring 10 goals and providing 7 assists, winning the 2022/23 Argentine Super Cup with the team. He was also selected for the Argentina national team for the first time earlier this month and made his debut in the World Cup qualifier against Chile.
Regarding Mastantuno's departure, River Plate sent him a farewell and blessing through a statement. The statement read: "Thank you, Franco, for your dedication and talent. We are proud to see you continue to grow in the club. I wish you all the best in your new stage after the Club World Cup."
